Identi.ca was upgraded last night to Laconica version 0.8. This new version brings with it many improvements and many new features. Among these features, is the much requested threading, a great example of that being here. Some clients are already taking advantage of this new feature.

Also included was profile customization, which I've already taken advantage of in my profile to create what is in the words of @foucault: "Christmas in outer space":
Another interesting new feature is the ability to include multimedia in your updates. The implementation laconica and identica have made is a very seamless one,
allowing you to upload pictures and movies and have them display in the
identica website through the use of a javascript hoverbox. Clicking on the
link will take you to the file itself, but below the status update
you'll see something that says Attachments, and clicking on those links
will result in a javascript box popping up and showing you the photo.
This also works for youtube and vimeo videos. I imagine laconica clients will start by displaying photos inline, then move on to videos too.
