The most important things you want to keep in mind:
- Send money, not stuff
- Donate to trustworthy organizations that have a good track record with working in Haiti, or across the world, such as Partners In Health, CARE, Doctors Without Borders and DirectRelief International.
Red Cross spends around 6 to 7% of its money on "administrative costs". That includes salaries, etc. They've been known to list non-administrative things as "program expenses".
So let's cut all this "administrative" BS and all the top-heavy management, and we get:
Partners In Health spends 2.8% on administrative costs, and they have a cleaner track record, especially working in Haiti. Yes, you want to click that last link.
Also consider Doctors Without Borders, who only spend 1% on administrative costs
So my vote goes to Partners In Health and Doctors Without Borders. I hope yours does too.
Make your donation count.
You could always just volunteer in Haiti ;)
