If Fast & Furious 4 is out in theatres at the time of this writing, does that mean all movies in theatres right now are about racing? Does that mean there's a scene in all the movies in theatres where someone is killed by being squished between two cars? Are all movies out right now about violence, sex, and racing?
The logical fallacy that anime is for kids always irritates me. What's hentai then? If you don't like anime, just say it. I have friends who are honest and say they just don't get into it. Much like how you might like some bands, but don't like the rest of the genre. It's just a personal preference. To say that all anime is for kids is like saying all movies have extreme amounts of violence just because the latest Vin Diesel flop exists.
Just as there are movies of various genres aimed at various ages, so too are there various genres of anime aimed at various ages. I might not like some romantic comedy, but that doesn't mean all of it is aimed at teens and 20-something women. Yes guys, there's some romantic comedies out there aimed at us, usually involving some sort of overarching plot like escaping the desert, finding treasure, etc. Don't diss entire genres or artforms just because you're not the target audience of a small sample of it.
If you're interested in a mature psychological anime, I recommend Eden of the East. It's only recently started but it's shaping up to be a saga on par with the Bourne trilogy(they even reference it at times).
Thanks for this suggestion! I will definitely check it out. (There's something familiar about the animation style - maybe I've seen something before from these illustrators / production company?)
@Addis - IG made Ghost in the Shell, which has a very similar style to this
I prefer the intro to this. Expecting good things to come out of this Animé.
Production I.G also did Seirei no Moribito which also had some great animation, Sky Crawlers is one other which I personally liked.
